I don't want to tempt providence but I often wonder why I never seem to find the opportunity to experience the many strange things that happen to people. Some have found that, when in the most extreme of situations, such as having almost fatal conditions, they rise from their physical bodies and become aware of their immediate surroundings. You will find many interesting accounts in the article below which will substantiate this. In "The Meadow" there will be many occurrences of this nature as our characters slide out of one life before finding the opportunity to live again.
Near Death Experiences - Fascinating & Helpful Accounts From Those Who Have Died And Come Back By Richard Hamon I first learned about near death experiences from one of my clients who had undergone surgery and died on the operating table. She recalled floating above the operating table and watching the medical team work on her. She felt no pain. After watching for a few moments, she was whisked away into a bright light.
After experiencing clinical death, she was revived, only to retain a clear memory of everything that had happened to her. The experience changed her life.
My curiosity led me to read Raymond Moody's groundbreaking book, Life After Life, which chronicled the near death experiences of ordinary people who had come back from death against all odds and expectations. Since that time, other books have examined the realities and questions surrounding near death experiences, and one can find many resources on the topic.
Let's fast-forward to the year 2003... the year I suffered a near death experience, and learned first-hand about this widespread but once secretive subject.
After undergoing clinical death, I was resuscitated, and I spent the next two weeks recovering in the hospital. My experience left an indelible impression on me and changed my life in numerous ways.
Common Elements Below are a few of the most prominent elements of near death experiences.
1. Many people say they floated out of their bodies at the moment of death and watched the proceedings from a safe distance.
2. Some report meeting a being who guided or consoled them.
3. Others recall being greeted by loved ones and family members who have already passed on.
4. Sometimes an individual goes through a life review, and sees the important events in his/her life being enacted in the mind's eye.
5. At some juncture during the experience, a person must return to life. Prior to doing so, he/she may feel he/she doesn't want to return. The person is in such a blissful state he/she may want to remain on the other side.
6. Many people feel they have been advised to go back to their lives, that it isn't time for them to die as yet.
Keep in mind, though, not everyone experiences these same elements, or remembers their experiences the same way, and no two near death experiences are exactly alike.
Naturally scientists have many questions about what happens when we die. And accounts of near death experiences may provide clues to the truth, but do not constitute proof. We know more about how people react to the experience afterwards than we know about the actual experience. We simply have to observe their behavior and make note of the various ways their experience has changed them.
After Coming Back This is the area of greatest interest for me. Many people have told me that their skirmish with death transformed their lives. I understand what they mean because this is true of me, as well.
Every person I have interviewed said it made them happier. I know my experience gave me a greater sense of happiness. Many people speak of the overwhelming feeling of fearlessness and bliss they feel. A striking sense of peace and joy stays with them as they resume their normal activities. Most of them seem to hold onto their new peace of mind, an inspired lifestyle and adventurous spirit.
A Personal Perspective My personal experience left me with a profound sense of inner peace and tranquility. As I recall, at some point in the process, I knew I would live and felt no fear. I don't know how I knew.
Reflecting on it now, I had never felt such a profound sense of peace and harmony, and I was (and am)completely unable to find the words to describe the feeling. My experience simply compared to nothing I had ever known. Upon returning to life, I could not wait to live again, only I wanted to live as I never have lived before.
Quite often the near death survivor believes he or she has an important mission to fulfill. There is a new sense of urgency in his or her life, and a strong desire to overcome previous limitations or failures. Survivors want to live a life of meaning and tend to view life in extremely optimistic, hopeful terms. Life itself seems more beautiful than ever. Not a precious second is to be squandered.
Love And Service In general, those who have undergone a near death experience seek to love and give in new ways. They want to live up to their fullest potential and correct their previous mistakes. They appreciate life more than most and have a strong desire to help others. Many have lost their fear of death, which allows them to live lives of great honesty, integrity and purpose.
And they report feeling great happiness and satisfaction with their ever-changing lives.
Yet it's never easy to make profound changes in one's life, whether inspired by a near death experience or not. Yet by reflecting upon the mysterious phenomenon of near death experiences, you can improve your life, too.
You can start by loving more deeply or finding ways to be more positive and optimistic. Every morning when you arise, see the new day as a wonderful opportunity to serve others. Then find others with whom you can share your enthusiasm.
Try This Experiment Imagine how you might feel if you had died and come back. How would it change you? How would you want to spend your time? What would you do differently? What would you tell your loved ones? How might your relationships change?
You can act as if you have had an enlightening experience, and see what unfolds. Everywhere you go, you'll take a powerful sense of gratitude with you. You'll see the extraordinary beauty in all things. You'll want to give your all to the people in your life.
Near death experiences often inspire people to live the life of their dreams. It gives them the strength to follow a path of heart. What path would you like to follow?
